Dirk chasing yet another fake rodent

Dirk and I previously reviewed Frolicat’s Cheese toy which Dirk loves playing with. This time Dirk and I played with Frolicat’s Rolorat: a robotic rat.

This toy will appeal to cats that are triggered by chasing laser lights and cats that enjoy playing with moving toys will also like this. When you switch the rat on its eyes light up and the tail starts moving. Then the rat starts rolling around the room occasionally stopping to move the tail and flicker the light in its eyes.

Dirk was properly intrigued by this moving toy though he mainly stuck to observing it when it was switched on. He’s not keen on laser light toys so that didn’t trigger him to play with it. He kept a close eye on it though! As soon as I switch it off he starts playing with it.

I guess kittens will love chasing this toy around the room when it is switched on. More mature cats, like Dirk, might play with it more when it is off. Dirk quite likes kicking it, jumping on top of it from a hidden position and pouncing or biting the tail.

An unintended game that Dirk enjoys as well is when I hold the rat up by its tail – it has a pretty long tail – and swing it around or drag it across the floor. He’s always up for a game of chase!

Kitten owners: I definitely recommend this one! It will provide hours of entertainment for you and your kitty 🙂

Dirk and his 4Cats Cuddly Dolphin

4Cats has got yet another great cuddly toy filled with catnip. They really know what cats love!
This one is in the shape of a dolphin, so not only is it soft and cuddly it looks cute too 🙂

You’d think the effect of catnip wears off after repeated exposure or as your cat ages, but that is certainly not the case!
Every time I give Dirk a new catnip toy he’s super excited. This one was no exception. Dirk likes biting or pouncing it or rubbing his head all over the toy. He doesn’t kick it as much as some other toys, but I suspect that’s because this one is so soft it triggers a different type of behaviour.

The sweetest thing is that Dirk likes to toss the toy in my direction as if he wants us to play with it together 🙂
I say ‘as if’ because I’m under no illusion that he really only wants me to give it to him or make him chase it… He’s trained me quite well!!

So head over to the Katzenworld shop and get your cat a cute dolphin to sink their claws or teeth into!

Are we having coffee?

Those of you who read my review of the catnip tea bag toy know that Dirk and I enjoy drinking a cup of coffee together. In fact, Dirk recognises my “coffee time” and comes over to the sofa to sit with me. The clever boy obviously knows that I’ll be sitting down for a bit and therefore will have time to cuddle him.

I’m not entirely sure about the coffee drinking part of it…

Admittedly, Dirk is sometimes a bit more considerate and will actually let me have coffee. Best time of the day 🙂

Dirk and his new (or Mew) Kicker toy

Lucky Dirk has got a brand new kicker toy! I saw these gorgeous toys at the Cat Extravaganza in London and couldn’t resist buying him one. Not just because this toy, and all other From Me to Mew toys look great but also because they are handmade by Paige.

The fabric can withstand some vigorous kicking and the toy has great quality catnip inside. It drives Dirk a bit mad 😉

There are many different colours/patterns of this toy and I gave one to a friend of Dirk’s as well. She loves it just as much!

Hunting games

As I wrote in a previous blog, it is important that we keep our indoor cats happy. Most indoor cats enjoy playing hunting games. The most suitably toys are the ‘fishing rod’ type toys. They come with many possible attachments.

Dirk loves the ones that look like insects or feathers. The feathers spin around and swish through the air mimicking an actual bird. Dirk interest is piqued as soon as he hears the swish swish of the feathers.

Another thing cats like: swap toys or attachments during a play session. This will renew your cats interest in the game and keep them active a bit longer.
